The real story
A Los Angeles restaurant added a 20% mandatory tip plus a 5% "admin fee" to a customer's bill, 25% in extra charges before any voluntary tip, and the customer's photo of the receipt went viral on Reddit ("That bill is extortion"); meanwhile a Popmenu survey found that 35% of Americans say they have cut back on tipping at restaurants in 2026.
